Yvonne G. Ragland

Yvonne Gwendolyn Ragland(Vonnie), daughter of the late Walter Shuler, Sr. and Fannie Robinson Harvey, was called to heaven on October 9, 2007. Yvonne was born on September 24, 1947 in King George, Va. She attended the Ralph Bunche Public School System where she graduated in 1966. She joined Salem Baptist Church at an early age where she was a member of the Usher Board. After graduating, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she later joined Faith United Church of Christ (Faith Fellowship). Yvonne was very busy at Faith. While being a devoted wife and mother, she was Chair of the Usher Board/Head Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Prayer Warrior, member of the Prayer Intercessor Ministry and the Elder of the Church.

Yvonne worked for the General Accounting Office for 33 years until her retirement in 2003. She loved retirement. She had all the time now to be a blessing to EVERYONE. She enjoyed adding names to her prayer list, even for people she didn't know, so that she could intercede during her daily ''Intercessory Hour.'' She always thought about others, no matter what the cost. She would not think of herself or her needs, but the needs of others. Yvonne frequently attended 6:30am Morning Manna Prayer Service on Wednesdays at East Friendship Baptist Church and was also known for her ''Famous Corn Pudding.'' Yvonne was a part of the Women In Prayer Ministry for over 10 years. She readily would accept any responsibility given to her at the WIP gatherings from one Church to another each month, whether it was to read a scripture, pray or participate in workshops at the Women In Prayer Retreats.

God led Yvonne to Union Bethel AME where she answered her calling as an Intercessor. As a woman determined to obey God, she was there every time the doors of the Church opened, attending Noon Day Bible Study, Worship Services, Retreats, Bibly Study, Meetings and more. Yvonne served on the Usher Board/Chaplin, Elder of The Prayer Intercessor Ministry, Sunday School Teacher, Sisters in Serenity, Credit Union Ministry and Seawright For Bishop 2008 Committee. Yvonne was always kind, warm and just a sweet person to be around. Yvonne was a person that you could trust with everything. She was a good listener, an encourager and one that would calm your spirit when things were in a turmoil. No one was a stranger to Yvonne. She showed love to everyone she came in contact with. Yvonne's love for people was not just in ''Word'' it was also in ''Deed.'' If she could help you in any way, she would always do it.

Yvonne leaves to cherish her memories, a faithful, devoted, caring and loving husband, Clarence Ragland; Her lil' blessing and angel of a daughter, Jeanine; Five other children, Celeste, Travis, Spencer, Kevin and Eric; Two adopted by the heart children, Nakia Graves (Wesley) and Eric Brown; Two brothers preceded her death, Walter(Frankie) and Gerald Shuler; Three brothers, Clyde Robinson, Stanley Robinson and James Harvey; Two sisters, Sharon Scott and Ella Harvey; Godchildren, Nihelle, Jimmy, Christian and Christina; Prayer Partner, Rev. Theresa Thomas and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins , best friends and Prayer Warriors.
