William Thomas "Boybaby" Scott was born July 27, 1929 to the late Charlie and Martha Scott in King George, Virginia and died peacefully at his home in King George on Monday, September 12, 2011. He was the youngest of eight children and was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Lawson and five brothers, Charlie, James, Clarence, Isaiah, and Jack Scott. One son, Lawrence Gordon Scott, preceded him in death at the young age of three. One granddaughter Dominique also preceded him in death.
Boybaby was educated in the King George School System at the King George Training School. He was employed at the Naval Weapons Lab as a laborer. He then worked at Exxon until he went to work in Washington, DC where he worked many years as a cement mason. He retired in 1992 from the Cement Mason Union, Carday Associates after many years of hard work.
Boybaby accepted the Lord and joined the Little Ark Baptist Church at an early age. He would proudly walk to church with his family. Boybaby lent his many talents to various organizations such as Shiloh Baptist Church, Little Ark Baptist Church, King George Masonic Lodge #314, and any individual needing a helping hand. He loved helping everyone and no job was too big or too small. He would arrive early and leave late trying to get as much done each day as possible. Boybaby always sized up the job before starting and was quick to assess projects started by others and provide guidance as necessary.
In the 1980s, he joined the King George Masonic Lodge #314 and was a lifetime member.
Boybaby loved gardening and did so with much enthusiasm. As a matter of fact, his last planting included six different locations and he worked each one with zeal—watering and weeding daily. After laboring with his garden, he welcomed all to share with the harvest. It was not uncommon for him to deliver his harvest to the elderly and family.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife of 62 years, Mabel Scott; the apple of his eye, his daughter, Janice S. Williams (Ralph) of King George, Virginia; two sons, Jesse Scott and Darryl Scott (Romagene), both of King George, Virginia; Grandchildren, Marcia Williams, Machelle Williams; Angela Scott, William "Billy" Scott II, Charlene Thompson, Ernest Thompson, Wanda Gross, and Tiffany Jones. 15 great-grandchildren; one Sister, Sarah Triplett. One Brother-in-law, Carroll Bush (Maranda), Sisters-in-laws, Glorine Campbell (Robert), Blanche Parr, Thelma Holden, Doris Woodall, Liza Parr, and Adeal Scott; Godchildren: Avis Clinton, Aaron Holden, and Daphne Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, special friends: Johnny White, Ernest Jordan, Theodore Johnson and Jimmy Miller; and even though he thought he was the go-to man he had his personal mechanic, Randy Nelson, and many, many friends.
