William Saunders Flanagan was born on Tuesday, January 25, 1927 to William Flanagan Sr. and Margie Humber. He entered in the Kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, July 10, 2011, he was 84 years blessed.
William lived in the quaint town of Lumpkin, which is south of Atlanta, Georgia. There, he was raised by Margie (affectionately known as Mother). He began his formal education in the Stewart County School System. Upon completion of the second grade, his education was abruptly halted due to the devastating economic depression of the 1930's. Terrified by its impact, William decided to get a profession. And from that day on and decades later William Flanagan always worked to support his family. From an ambitious newspaper boy in Lumpkin, to a head supervisory housekeeper in the Health and Hospital Cooperation (HHC) of New York City, William's work ethic was extraordinary. After retiring from HCC, William decided to go into business for himself and took up a profession in the recycling business.
William married Lillian Staten on July 4, 1948. From this union were born: LaMont, Kweli, Gregory, Michelle and Glen. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, and 2 children; Kweli and Michelle.
William was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. After the death of his daughter, William raised her five children: Jeffery, Mekel, Janiqua, Javon, and Merrel Grant.
William is survived by his sons and daughters-in law: LaMont and Desiree Flanagan, Miesha Kiniya, Gregory and Deborah Flanagan, Glen and Tina Flanagan. He also leaves his grand-children: Jeffery Grant, Mekel Grant, Janiqua Grant Morris, Javon Grant Minor, Merrel Grant, Nkiyah Flanagan, Milan Flanagan, Keenan Flanagan, Keisha Hunter, Tierra, Tiona, and John Turner, Myaisa Howlette, Kim Ferguson, Terry Ferguson, Michael Thompson and Malik Carter and sixteen great-grand-children. William is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Gail Oliver, Nina Ealey, Sherry Moore, George Houston, Theron Houston, Valerie Akuffo, Beverly Flanagan and Laverne Norman as well as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews and other relatives.
