On Thursday, November 16, 2023 another angel gained her wings. Virginia Louise Hubbard, affectionately known as “Puddin,” was born on May 19, 1949 to the late James Henry and Daisy Mae McDowney. Virginia was preceded in death by her daughter Alice Parker “Lisa,” her parents James and Daisy McDowney, her brother Melvin McDowney and her nephew Robert Lee McDowney.
Virginia received her education in the D.C. public school system. After her high school graduation, Virginia attended UDC and Strayer College to further her education. Virginia worked for the D.C. Superior Court for 38 years until her retirement. Virginia decided to return to the workforce and worked for T.J. Maxx, where she was able to do two of the things that she loved most (meet new people and do retail therapy). Virginia loved to shop and had the wardrobe to prove it.
Virginia had many hobbies and interests which included, collecting Tweety Bird paraphernalia, visiting black history museums, collecting and reading books, as well as belonging to and sponsoring educational programs for children, to name a few. Virginia loved her family and attending family functions, where she never showed up without her disposable camera. Virginia never met a stranger, and would strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere.
Virginia leaves to cherish her memories, brothers: John McDowney, Mark McDowney (Lyndra), Kevin McDowney and Kenneth McDowney (Patricia); sisters: Darlene McDowney, Earsley Robinson (Reginald), Parithia McDowney and Sandra Redd (Tony); Uncles: Alexander McDowney (Darnell) and Ernest McDowney; and Aunts: Everada Taylor, Emma Johnson and Tameenah Dubus (Joe).
Also surviving with special memories are a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; very special friends: Jody Smith, Marian Burgess (known as Ms. B.), Ms. Edna, Celeste and many more. To know Virginia was to love Virginia.
We had a wonderful Aunt, one who never really grew old.
Her smile was made of sunshine, and heart was solid gold.
Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
We love you Aunt Gin Gin. You will be truly missed.
Love, Your Niece Taneasha
