Verlette R. Maiden

Verlette Ruth Maiden was born on March 3, 1927 in Dahlgren, Virginia, the first born of five daughters to Melvin and Eva Maiden.

She joined Little Ark Baptist Church at an early age. Verlette was very adventurous and independent, upon her graduation from King George Training School in 1944; she immediately moved to Washington, DC and obtained federal government employment. After a few years she relocated to the Big Apple, New York City and continued he federal government service. Throughout her career she trained district office staff on various systems, received numerous awards, honors and superior performance evaluations.

While living in New York, she met and married BC Taylor of Mobile, Alabama. They celebrated over 25 years of marriage. He departed this life in 1992.

Verlette made her transition on April 4, 2010. She was a loving, devoted and generous person, who was every niece and nephew's second mother. In New York, she was a devoted caregiver to her Aunt Lola and Uncle Mack. Even though she lived the high life in New York, she was devoted to her family, returning home for every holiday, graduation, marriage, reunion and celebrations with camera in hand.

There was no gathering like the Maiden sisters gathering. Those five sisters fought hard, cried on each others shoulders and continuously displayed their love and affection for one another. Celestine Jordon preceded her on May 20, 2006. There are three surviving sisters to carry on, Melvine "Pookie" Smith, Frances "Shirley" O' Brien, and Itelia "Puddin" Walker. She also leaves behind two brother-in-laws: Ernest Jordan and Nathan Walker, one remaining aunt, Rosetta Frazier, six nieces; Ernestine Jefferson(Kelly), Claudette Jordon, Marlene Butler, Thomasene Verlette Kelly(Ron), Nicole Coles(Terrence), Dana Walker(Roosevelt), and one nephew Melvin O'Brien, and a host of great and great- great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special long-time friends; Barbara Clemant, Martha Clipper, Carrie Cooper, Ernestine Gordon, Evelyn Parker, Cathy Todd, and Louise Washington.
