On Saturday, September 28, 2024, after a long illness, Mr. Thomas James Coldman, Jr. passed away from this earthly realm at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, VA, and went to be with our Lord. He was born on December 3, 1945, the only child born to the late Thomas James Coldman, Sr. and Ella Mae Griffin of Marerro, Louisiana.
Thomas was educated in the Seattle, Washington Public School System. In later years, he moved back to Louisiana. He served in the U. S. Army for 6 years 10 months and 5 days. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. The last foreign country he served in was Vietnam from February 8, 1969 to August 13, 1971. Afterwards, Thomas went to work for the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division retiring after a successful career.
Thomas was joined in marriage to the late Frances Maxine Coldman. No children were born to this union. Thomas accepted Christ and attended church until he could no longer due to his health.
An immensely favorite pastime for Thomas was spending time with his family and friends and watching the Movie Channel Grit to see all the old movies. He enjoyed getting out of the house going to restaurants and being outside with his Family. He lit up with a twinkle in his eye when spending time with his Great Grandchildren Justin and Ava Simone whom he called Road Runner. Ava and her Pop Pop would watch TV together while eating Lindy’s Italian Ice.
Thomas was honestly outspoken and encouraged family and friends to excel above their expectations. Thank you, Dear God, for answering all of his prayers in Jesus Christ Holy Name, Amen.
In later years, Thomas took care of his father Thomas James Coldman, Sr. and his mother-in-law Annie Laura Ferguson until they went to be with the Lord. Thomas was always willing to assist those in need and care for any family members or friends when called.
Loving memories of Thomas James Coldman, Jr. will continue to live on in the hearts of surviving family members who include one son William V. Carter, III; one daughter Michele K. Carter; one grandson Barry M. Smith, Jr. (Candice); two great grandchildren Justin Smith and Ava Simone Smith, aka Road Runner. His legacy also includes brothers-in law Anthony (Tony) Ferguson of Bowling Green, VA. and Michael Gray of Fredericksburg, VA. He has beautiful nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly. He has a beloved relationship with Van T. Nguyen (Son v Nguyen) and her family Christy T. Nguyen, Richson Nguyen and Ryan Nguyen, all from Vietnam. Other special friends with endearing memories are Bow, Kenny, Eddie, Charles, and James.
