Shirley Ann Johnson

Celebrating the Life and Legacy of a Virtuous Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend, Shirley Davis Johnson. On August 25, 2020, she slipped peacefully into eternal rest and gained her wings and was welcomed home with our Almighty God!
Shirley was affectionately known as “Lum” and Mrs. Shirley to the community. She was born on October 2, 1941 to the late Charles and Grace Davis, Sr. Lum was a woman of faith, wisdom, but most of all a family pioneer to her children, grandchildren, and all who came in contact with her.

At an early, Shirley accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and personal Savior. She was baptized and became an active member at Union Bethel Baptist Church, King George, VA. It was there that she grew more connected with God and deeply loved her Pastor, First Lady and church family dearly. Lum enjoyed spending time with her Sisters and other family members whether it was traveling to the gospel singing all across town and playing bingo for numerous hours at a time. Spending quality time with her family meant everything to Lum. She was warm hearted, well-loved and had a heart of gold. She had a saying when she didn't agree with what was going on or if she became tickled by something, she would respond by saying "‘Deed God knows".

Shirley was joined in Holy Matrimony on January 6, 1959 to her late husband, George Anderson Johnson. The two were honored to celebrate 61 years of marriage! Shirley was preceded in death by her 3 loving and devoted daughters, Earlene P. Johnson, Delorice I. McDowney, and Verlette Davis as well as her husband, George.
Memories of a lifetime are left to be treasured by : three devoted daughters; LaVern Smith (Donald), Mary Johnson, and Barbara Johnson all of King George, VA, six loving sons; George (Earline) Johnson, Timothy (Cynthia) Johnson, Michael (KaTrina) Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Kevin Johnson and William Johnson, a devoted son-in-law, Mark P. McDowney, 4 sisters, Elizabeth Davis, Alice Smith, Lucy Mae Davis and Ella (Robert) Johnson, one devoted brother, Linwood (Lavenia) Davis, sister-in-law, Evelyn McDowney and one brother-in-law, Thomas Johnson. Lum’s memory will forever be a keepsake and to be cherished and to be cherished, as she leaves 36 amazing grandchildren, 102 great-grandchildren and blessed to see 7 great-great-grandchildren. Lum also leaves behind memories to cherish her nieces, nephews, her Pine Forest Community of friends and last but not least, her loving and charming caregiver of over 8 years, Chinere “Precious” Smith.
