Obituary for Shirley A. Washington

On Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Retreat Hospital in Richmond, VA, Shirley Ann Washington departed this life to be with the Lord.

She was born September 18, 1952 in Middlesex County, the daughter of Grant Washington and the late Marie Baylor Washington of Corbin, VA. At an early age, Shirley gave her life to Christ at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Port Royal, VA. She attended church there faithfully until her health began to decline.

She was employed with Sheraton Book Maker until her retirement on disability. She was a graduate of Caroline High School in Bowling Green, VA. She loved people and enjoyed each year of the tax season, where she cheerfully helped someone get there tax returns in order and in on time.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memories: Mr. Grant Washington, her loving father, Miss Phyllis Washington, her best friend and devoted sister, both of Corbin, two special cousins, Jimmie Baylor, Jr. , of Fredericksburg and Carlene Randle of Woodford. Two Aunts, Mary Baylor of Woodford and Lillian Washington of Middlesex County, numerous cousins and a special friend, Patricia Sosa and her son Andy Sosa both of Lake of the Woods.

She fought a courageous fight against Breast Cancer. She bravely drove herself to her chemotherapy appointments without any distress or duress. Even until her last days, when asked the question; how do you feel, she would say, "I'm fine, I am not in any pain, and I feel alright. God is good to me". She took her final drive to Mary Washington Hospital emergency room on Sunday, May 3. When asked how she made it there and walked her self from the parking lot, through the doors, she simply stated, "God carried me through the doors".

We know that she has been welcomed by all of her family through Heaven's doors. We'll miss you Shirley. You deserve your sweet rest, you've earned it!
