Sherieka Danielle Richards Ransom, affectionately called Reka, was born to Cozetta Gadson and Ellis Byrd at Prince George's Hospital Center, Cheverly, Maryland, on November 10, 1979. Sherieka departed this life peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 5, 2017.
Reka received her education in Westmoreland and King George County Public School Systems. Deciding to further her education, Reka received licensures as a Certified Nurses Assistant and as a Medical Technician.
Sherieka accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She united with Little Zion Baptist Church and was baptized by Pastor William B. Scott.
Reka started her career at Blue Cross & Blue Shield after graduating high school. Deciding sitting behind a desk was not her passion, Reka pursued and she was gainfully employed in a number of positions in the health care industry. She worked as a CNA and Medical Technician for Onyx Assisted Living, Medical Technican for Wilburn Gardens, CNA for Capital Home Health, and a Rehabilitation Technician for Healthsouth. Remaining in the health care industry, she moved her talents to being a receptionist at Home Health Care until her health started to decline.
After building a happy life and spending 14 years together, Sherieka married the love of her life. She was joined in holy matrimony to David Ransom II on June 25, 2016.
Reka was lovingly called NuNu, BaBa, and JellyBean by her closest family. Those names always brought a smile to her face. She took pride in being a wife, mother, and taking care of her family. In her down time you could find Reka supporting DiMario as he excelled on the football field. Her support extended beyond watching him. She also served as their Team Mom and advocate; always ensuring the boys had a great experience. Reka loved gatherings with family and friends, even making us delay having the 2016 Richards Family 4th of July celebration until she returned from her honeymoon.
Sherieka exemplified strength and determination. Even on days when she felt a little weak, she never let health challenges get her down. If asked how she felt, her response was always "I'm alright" with her infamous smile on her face. During Reka's brief stay with us, she touched the lives of so many people. To know her was to love her.
Sherieka was predeceased by her father Ellis Byrd, loving grandparents John & Gladys Richards and John & Anita Byrd, aunts Louise Byrd, Estelle Cox, Lucy Franklin, Gloria Baker, and Jacqueline Byrd, and uncle John Frank Byrd.
She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted husband David Ransom II of Fredericksburg, two sons DiMario Brooks and David Ransom, III and one daughter Tierra Ransom of Fredericksburg; mother Cozetta Gadson (Joseph) of Fredericksburg, stepfather Samuel Pryor of King George; second mother/aunt Theresa Frye (William) of Waldorf, Maryland; grandmother Rebecca Mitchell of King George; brother Ellis Beverly (Shawnell) of Fort Washington, Maryland, sister Janay Beverly of Oxon Hill, Maryland, god-daughters Mikayla Prichep and CaMeya Pratt; mother-in-law Deborah Scott (Floyd); father-in-law David Ransom (Kim); brother-in-laws Colin and Dillion Ransom, and Justin Moore; sister-in-law Tiffany Hancock; aunts Hazel Baylor (Allen), Josephine Burnett, Patricia Kellibrew, Rose Byrd, Dorothy Mae Johnson, Delores Johnson (James), Renea Laprade (Kenny); uncles John Richards (Helen), Roy Richards (Kathy), Spencer Richards (Lisa), Michael Richards, Cecil Richards (Amy), Levi Byrd, and Daniel Byrd; one great-aunt: Alberta Byrd; her close friends (sisters) Roshaunda Burnett, Jenaya Foster, Camyell Pratt, Alana Richards, Athena Prichep, Taisha Jordan, and Elisha Yatros; one play son Jayden Smith, nieces, nephews, as well as a host of cousins and friends.
