On Friday, September 30, 2011, our hearts were saddened by the passing of our beloved Sharon R. Giles. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
Sharon R. Giles, the daughter of the late James A. Robinson, Jr., and Sylvia C. Gayden, was born in Richmond, Virginia.
Sharon accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. After traveling with family, she completed her formal education in the school system of Petersburg, Virginia. Upon completion of her education from Georgetown University, she began a career in the medical field.
On July 22, 1995, Sharon married her soul mate and best friend, Cutee C. Giles. Sharon and Cutee shared a sincere and loving marriage. They experienced what many only dream of - a marriage filled with unwavering love, deep devotion, open and honest communication and lots of laughter and joy.
Sharon's life has been a testament to her perseverance, unyielding dedication to help others and her steadfast love for her family and friends. This is further evidenced by her 15 years of service at Mt. Hope Baptist Church as a mentor to young women and as a leader in the youth ministry. Even after she was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease (also known as ALS), she continued to serve others until her body would no longer allow it.
Sharon always demonstrated an unwavering love of God, which served to comfort her during her journey of ALS and her final days.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of 16 years, Cutee; her mother, Sylvia Gayden of Petersburg, Virginia; her daughter, Joi Williams of Hopewell, Virginia; her son, Christopher (Tameka) Giles of Spotsylvania, Virginia; five precious grandchildren, Mycah Williams, Quinton Giles, Briona Giles, Kelan Williams, and Kaleb Williams; five sisters, Reverend Deborah (Ray) Burton of Petersburg, Virginia, Karen (Douglas) Selby of Norfolk, Virginia, Kimberly (James) Williams of Hampton, Virginia, Wanda Robinson of Petersburg, Virginia, and Carolyn Hayes of Richmond, Virginia; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lloyd & Rosa Hawkins of Petersburg, Virginia; her sister-in-law, Alcenia (David) McIntosh-Peters of Washington, D.C.; her brother-in-law, Leon (Barbara) Giles of Petersburg, Virginia; as well as godchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
"Come unto Me, all that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
