Sarah Ann Washington Jefferson, 74, of King George, VA, went to sing and dance in heaven with the angels on July 9, 2023 after a long battle with illness.
Sarah was born December 14, 1948 to Garnett and Elizabeth Washington in Spotsylvania County. She was a true country girl who graduated from John J. Wright in 1967. She, later on went to study Business Administration at Germanna Community College in Locust Grove, VA.
At 16 she got her first job as a school bus driver for Spotsylvania County. She moved on to become a bus driver for Stafford County, VA for 36 years. She obtained her associates degree in Business Administration and decided to try an office job at National Funeral Association in Reston, VA
However, the bus was calling her name, so she drove for Fredericksburg Regional Transit for 26 years and finally retired in 2018. Sarah loved to drive, loved to plant flowers, and loved to be near the water when she was upset or just thinking about life.
In 1970 Sarah met her husband Wille Leroy Jefferson, an active Marine in Quantico, VA. On January 3, 1971 they got married and had one daughter Michelle Renn’e Jefferson. Willie had 2 children by Mary Fisher Leah Williams and Joyce Jefferson.
Sarah was a very Christian woman always, with an open heart and mind. She love to “uber” her friends and family. Anything dealing with driving, she was always ready to rev up the engine and go. She loved to plant new flowers and watch them grow. Sarah, was all about the Free Lance Star on Sunday and MSNBC every day.
Sarah was predeceased by her mother and father Garnett Washington and Elizabeth Washington; one sister, Elizabeth Jeanette Hyman (Willie Leroy Jefferson); one son, Rodney Anthony Washington; 2 twin grandsons, Kwame and Suave Jefferson.
Sarah is survived by 2 older brothers, Willis Leroy Washington and Edward Samuel Washington (Deborah Scroggins); one daughter, Michelle Renn’e Jefferson; 2 step daughters, Jean M. Williams and Joyce Jefferson; 4 grandchildren, Torshan Jefferson, Donte L. Jackson, Antonio Jefferson, D’Isaiah Allen; a long- time caregiver, Thomas Lawrence Jr.; and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved as if they were her own children.
Allen Washington, Paula Johnson, Wayne Washington, Betty Jo Banks, Rosetta, Loretta and Darryl Hyman, Keith Scroggins, Maurice Scroggins and lastly her main man Tyrone Washington. There are too many great nieces and nephews to name but she loved them all and each one of them were a part of her heart.
Sarah was a family woman and the true definition of a warrior battling illness for the last 2 years and never complaining, not even to the end. She left this earth in peace and comfort thanks to Mary Washington Hospice.
