Sadie C. Bland

Reflection of Life

Sadie Catherine Davis Bland departed this life to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 23, 2008. She was born on May 30, 1915, in King George, Virginia to Charles and Blanche Davis. She accepted Christ at a very early age and lived a life pleasing to God. She built her faith on her favorite scripture, Psalm 23. On December 16, 1933, Sadie married the love of her life, Levi Bland and together they raised and nurtured seven children.

Little Ark Baptist Church was so important to Sadie and she faithfully served the Lord at this branch of Zion. She rendered her services to the following ministries: Pastor's Aid Club, The J.W. Chapman and Volunteer Choirs and the Mother's Day Flower Committee, where she served as chairperson. Before her health began to decline, Sadie could be found on Wednesday nights at Prayer and Praise Service.

Sadie was an avid shopper! She also enjoyed many other hobbies to include ceramics, spending time in her flower garden, completing puzzles with her granddaughter, Tiola and hosting family dinners, especially during the holidays. Having the house full for family dinners meant much to her!

Sadie leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Lena (Veola), Robert (Marie), James (Yvonne), Frank (Louise), John (Jackie), and Blanche (John); along with 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Maggie Filmore, Addell Bland, Rosie Robinson, Alice Pryor, Bertha Hodge and Mary Ann Daniels (Kenneth); two brothers, Benjamin Beverly (Ruth) and Eugene Beverly; "close" in-laws, James Bland, Susie Bland, Leonora Bland, Ruth Bland and Mabel Kee; god-daughters, Cathy Bland and Gail Hodge. During her illness, Sadie was blessed with several very special friends, Perry and Mary Scranage who visited often to spend quality time with her; and also her adopted family, "The Jordon-Jefferson" (Ernest, Claudette, Kelley and Shay) who always showered her with beautiful flowers, which always made her day extra special! Her close bond with her two devoted sisters, Bertha and Addell meant everything to her! They were never too busy to care for their older sister, even when their own health was not the best. No matter what the task, her daughter-in law, Yvonne always stepped in to lend a hand. She always seemed more like a daughter than an in-law. Without the constant love and dedication of Veola Bumbry and John Chapman (sons-in-law), Sadie would not have been able to live independently in her home for such an extended period of time. There are many nieces, nephews and other family members too numerous to list individually. However, two special nephews, Kenneth and Butch (Laurie) Bland, remained near and dear to her heart!

Sadie Bland was a very special wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. We will all miss her but are joyful because she is in the presence of the Almighty God. Therefore, this is not good-bye, because for all who are saved WILL see her again!
