Rodester Brown affectionately known as "Roe" was born on November 17, 1930 to the late Bessie E. Brown-Pierce. She was educated in the Westmoreland County Public School System. Rodester joined First Baptist Church, Colonial Beach, VA at an early age under the leadership of Rev. L.C. Charles. She was a member of the Gospel Chorus, where she served as secretary and president for a number of years.
Rodester worked various jobs in her adult life, but she retired from Lee Contractor Cleaning Services of Dahlgren, VA after a number of years. She spent her time as a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She has been a faithful servant for the Lord, signing his praises, being helpful to others until her health began to decline.
Rodester went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 29, 2010, surrounded by her family at her side. She was preceded in death by her mother Bessie E. Brown-Pierce, two sons Charles and Allen Brown, a sister Ethel Shanklin, and great-grandson Charles Brown.
Rodester leaves to cherish her memory four daughters: Etta Jalloh (Allieu) of Washington, DC, Brenda Hayes (John Wayne), Bernice Brown of Colonial Beach, VA, and Caroline Brown of Capitol Heights, MD; 2 sons Randolph Brown (Sheline) of Ft. Washington, MD and Donald Brown (Michelle) of Lawton, OK; a daughter-in-law: Patricia Brown of Charleston. SC.; one sister: Deloris Pierce; brother-in-law: Charlie Shanklin; two uncles; Edward Brown (Bernice) of Colonial Beach, VA and Joshua Brown (Matilda) of Washington, D.C.; two aunts: Elmira Watts of Colonial Beach, VA and Virginia Brown of MD; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren; special friends: Ms. Maurice Johnson, Thomas "Tommy" Brown, Vanessa Brown, Doris Rhodes, Bernard Dudley, Mary Dudley and her signing partner she called her "Angel" Burkett Lyburn; two Godchildren; Tonji Hayes and Constance Pierce and host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
