Robert Thomas Drummond was born on April 2, 1921 to the late Mattie Blanche Walker and Robert D. Drummond. He was raised by his grandmother the late Shellie Robinson Drummond, who insisted that he received his Christian and academic education; as a result of her guidance, he attended the Bethel Baptist Church and received his education in the public school system in Gloucester, Virginia.
As a young man, he was joined in holy matrimony to Lessie Catlett and to that union four daughters were born. Robert served in the United States Army during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he worked at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, Virginia and later moved to New York where he was employed as a teamster by Gallo Wine Distributors; he also worked as a distributor of the New York Times. While in New York, he joined the Calvary Baptist Church in Queens.
In 1988, Robert married Virginia Bushrod and moved back to the state of Virginia. He joined the Macedonia Baptist Church, where he worked diligently as a member of the Deacon's Ministry, Mass Choir and president of the Male Chorus. Bobby was also a dedicated member of the King George/Westmoreland Deacon Ministry for many years.
This past Monday, September 8, 2014 at 1:00pm, Robert Thomas Drummond was called home by his savior. Surrounded by his loving family and friends, he suffered no more. Deacon Drummond had one younger sister Blanche, who passed on some years ago. At 93, Mr. Drummond outlived his oldest daughter Barbara Drummond. He leaves behind Virginia, his beautiful cherished wife. She was his angel, his advocate, his cheerleader, and he was hers. His Mona Lisa. His legacy will go on with his surviving daughters Marvel Drummond, Janice Murray (Harold) and Shellie Drummond-Cordero (Mark), host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, his cousins George, Billie, Harry and Phillip, nieces, nephews and grandson-in-law.
