Robert James Berry

Robert J. Berry, was one of five children born to the late James H. and Aldina B. Berry, in Essex County, Virginia on January 12th, 1928. He peacefully ended his journey on March 13th, 2017 in Woodbridge, VA.

Robert (Bobby) left home to join the military on October 18th, 1950. During his time of service, he was stationed all over the continental United States and overseas, including Alaska, Germany, and Korea.

On May 5th, 1955, he was united in matrimony to his loving wife Gladys L. Holmes and of this union one child was born. Together in their military travels they made many lifelong friends and extended family (Morrisons, Johnsons, Stewards, Lockharts, Thomas', Jones, etc.)

Robert (Bobby) served his country in the Vietnam War and received two Bronze Service Stars. He retired from the Army in Killeen, TX on October 31, 1972 as Sgt. 1st Class after serving 22 years. At his retirement, he received The Army Commendation Medal.

After retirement, he moved his family to Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service on Ft. Bragg, NC as a Mail Carrier, and serviced the Pope Air Force Base community as well. After his second retirement of 17 years, he moved with his wife back to Hustle, VA where they built their retirement home in 1990.

Robert (Bobby) is preceded in death by his loving wife Gladys L. Berry, siblings Jenifer Berry (Barbara), Delores Dudley (Alphonso), Almeter Berry, and Johnny Berry.

Robert (Bobby) is survived by his daughter Jacquelyn R. McMillian-Hanna (Leon) of Woodbridge VA, and grandson DeMarrow McMillian of Harker Heights, TX. In-laws, Eva Berry of Champlain, Virginia, Antoinette Holmes-Pompey of Hustle, VA, Susie Lewis of Fredericksburg, VA, Charles Holmes (Vernell) of Fredericksburg, VA, and Norman Holmes of Hustle, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
