On Friday, October 17, 2014, Richard Lee Washington Sr was called to rest. He was born in Port Royal, VA to the late James "Shorty" Washington, and Annie Washington on June 11, 1932.
Richard grew up and was educated in Caroline county. At a young age, Richard attended Shiloh Baptist church in Bowling Green, VA. He later went on to join the U.S. Army, where he served his country proudly.
After completing his duties with the Army, Richard was employed by Fort AP Hill, and retired after 26 years of work.
Richard was joined in Holy matrimony to his lovely wife, the late Elma Lee Washington, on February 19, 1956. Richard was preceded in death by his wife Elma, parents: James and Annie Washington, one son: Robert Washington, one grandson: Leon Washington, and four great grandchildren: Lawrence Wood III, Deandre, Nykeisha, and Alpheus Staton Jr.
He leaves to cherish many loving memories with his 12 children: - Rev. Alice Woods (Ladysmith), Ruby, Arlene, and Barbara Washington, all of Fredericksburg. - Richard Jr, Raymond, Michael Sr, William, James, Edward (all of Fredericksburg), Ronald (Washington DC), and Anthony Washington (Stafford). One son-in-law: Deacon Maurice Woods, two sisters: Daisy Watson (Capital Heights, MD), and Mary Upshaw (Bowling Green), one brother: Rev. Arthur Washington Sr and one sister-in-law, Gloria Washington (both of Bowling Green) 25 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
