On the morning of June 26, 2020, the Reverend Willie E. Glaspie, was called from labor to reward.
Reverend Glaspie was born in Duplin County, North Carolina, on June 20, 1938, to William Thomas and Mary Jane Glaspie. He graduated from E.E. Smith High School in 1956 and shortly thereafter, was drafted into the Army. He served honorably for more than 30 years including 2 tours in Vietnam. He retired as a Sergeant Major in 1991.
He was employed by Diversified Mailings in Fredericksburg for five years before embarking into the next chapter in his life: pastor ship.
In 1988, Reverend Glaspie joined Good Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Ronald Dunaway and began his Christian journey by singing with the senior choir. He joined the Senior Usher Board and later served as Associate Chairman of Deacon Ministry. Under the leadership of Reverend Robert Williams, Jr., Reverend Glaspie served as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent and Spiritual Officer for the Diaconate Ministry.
Upon being called by God to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Reverend Glaspie was licensed by the Good Hope Baptist Church on March 8, 1998. On February 24, 2002, he was ordained by the Good Hope Baptist Church to go forth and further spread the good news of Jesus Christ.
Under the guidance and leadership of Reverend Robert Williams, Jr, Reverend Glaspie attended the Fredericksburg Bible Institute and Seminary where he earned an Associate of Biblical Studies in May 2001 and Associate of Theology in May 2002.
Reverend Glaspie was ordained in February 2002 and was then called to pastor at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Unionville, Virginia. He continued his Christian journey at New Monrovia Baptist Church in Colonial Beach, Virginia, alongside Reverend Wolford McDowney and Reverend James Parker.
Reverend Willie E. Glaspie is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years Odell; his eldest son Timothy and wife Julie, second-born son Phillander, last son Stephon and only daughter Michele. Additionally, he has five grandchildren as well as five great-grandchildren.
