Rev. Thomas Wilbur Hopewell

The life of Reverend Thomas Wilbur Hopewell known to many as ''Buck'' ended on Saturday, July 10th, 2004 at his home in Colonial Beach, Virginia. On June 9, 1935 in Westmoreland County, Virginia, he was born to the late Deacon Thomas S. Hopewell and Deaconess Gladys M. Hopewell. He was preceded in death by his sister, Deaconess Gladys Shelton and his brother, Janon Hopewell.

He was educated in the Public Schools of Westmoreland.

At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined the Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Frederick Thornton. On August 19, 1961, he ws united in marriage to Lillian Stevenson. From this union, six children were born. In 1977, he received an anointed call from God to preach the word and was licensed to the ministry at Macedonia Baptist Church under Rev. R. E. Cabbell.

He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Lillian Hopewell; four sons, John Thomas Hopewell of Pembroke, Ky.; Wendell Hopewell of Colonial Beach; Richard Hopewell of San Antonio, Tx; Douglas Hopewell of Colonial Beach, Va; two daughters, Dorthea Hammond of Bowie, Md.; Lorri Foster of Colonial Beach, Va.; two daughters-in-law, Diane Hopewell and Phyliss Hopewell; 2 sons-in-law, Dwight Hammond and Brandon Foster, 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; one brother, Deacon Charles Hopewell; four sisters, Deaconess Ruby Lucas, Nilene Newman, Linda Brooks and Waverly Beverly; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Stevenson and Dorene Stevenson, 4 brothers-in-law, Dale Shelton, Calvin Brooks, Rosewald Beverly and John Stevenson; mother-in-law, Dorothy Stevenson and a god daughter, Lanita Wiltshire; 9 foster sisters and brothers; 1 aunt, Rosetta Toliver; 1 uncle, Deacon Veola McDowney; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He told us he was tired and ready to go home to be with his Father. He will be greatly missed.
