Phillip Lee Jones, affectionately called PJ, Pops, and the mail man, was born November 10, 1924 in Caroline County. He was the son of Eugene and Mamie Edith Jones. He was married to the late Viola Clara Ware. Phillip died suddenly at Carrington Place (Tappahannock Manor Nursing Home) in Tappahannock, Va.
During his life, he worked at various jobs. He did construction, he repaired his own vehicles and taught his sons to do the same. He was a jack of all trades. But he was ultimately known as the ''mail-man.'' For some 15 years or so, along his route from Supply to Tappahannock, Phillip met and befriend many. To know him, you loved him. He was a very loving and kind hearted person. He touched the lives of many people during his 83 years of life. Now he looks forward to something better. Soon there will be life without sickness and pain.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Jones, one son, Sterling Thomas Jones and two grandchildren, Crystal Jones and Dwaine Jones.
He leaves behind many to cherish his memories, his five sons and two daughters, Curtis Jones, Goldie Wheeler, Phillip Jr. Jones, Charles Jones, Dorothea Thomas, Kenneth Jones and Larry Jones; three sisters, Christine Smith of Washington, D.C., Ethel Monroe(Leroy) of Balty, Va and Elsie Anderson(Edward) of Doswell, Va; four faithfully devoted daughters-in-law, Clara, Laverne, Valice and Joyce Jones; two devoted sons-in-law, Johnny Thomas and Jessie Wheeler; two loving sisters-in-laws, Christine Ware and Pearl Holmes; one brother-in-law, Bernard Ware of Eastern Shore Maryland, 25 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
