Philicia Darlene Minor

Philicia Darlene Minor, the younger daughter of Reginald Minor and the late Viola Boxley Minor Oates, was born in Virginia on August 26, 1958. She entered eternal life on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at her residence in Detroit, Michigan.

At an early age, she accepted Christ and was baptized at St. John Baptist Church. While living in Caroline, she was active in Sunday School and sang in the children's choir. In Detroit, she continued her church attendance. However, whenever she came back to Virginia, she always worshiped at what she called "my church" –St. John. Her favorite Bible verses were Psalm 91:1-3.

Philicia began her education in the Caroline County Public Schools before relocating with her family to Detroit. After high school, she continued her education at Saginaw Valley State University and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Administration from Central Michigan University.

She was employed by the State of Michigan in the Department of Motor Vehicles and then the Department of Corrections, from which she retired. While an employee in the Department of Corrections, she worked as a volunteer preparing baskets for the needy at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also used her creative talents to make decorative baskets and crafts for family and friends.

Philicia's smile was contagious and she enjoyed talking to everyone.

Philicia leaves to mourn her father, Reginald Minor; stepmother, Evelyn Minor; sister, Debra Stevenson (Michael); four aunts, Lucille Bush (Milton) who was a surrogate mother to her after her mother's passing, Thelma Boxley who was her Godmother, Vivian Claxton, and Helen Boxley; three stepsisters, Saundra Oates, Verleen Oates, and Sharon Oates; two stepbrothers, Terrence Oates and Darnell Oates; two uncles, Welford Boxley and Percell Minor, Sr.; niece, Sasha Stevenson; nephews, Michael Benjamin Stevenson and Yemi Ogunbase; great niece and great nephews; and a host of cousins, friends and including a very devoted friend of many years, Stephanie Barber.
