Pansy S. Bumbrey

Pansy S. Bumbrey moved from this earthly life to her eternal rest on May 31, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was the last child born to the late Edward and Addie Scranage on August 25, 1930. She was joined in matrimony to William Bumbrey on February 8, 1948 and with this union God blessed them with three children: Melvin Bumbrey, Sterling (Ann) Bumbrey and Rowena (Tyrone) Pollard all of King George, VA. Her children added to her joy with the birth of their children. Eleven grandchildren blessed her with nineteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. The last ten years of her life, her special caregivers were her granddaughter Alicia Mutua (Rainey) along with daughter in law Shirley Bumbrey.

After accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, she joined Little Ark Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. George Carter. She was a faithful and active member until 2011. While there she actively served in many ministries: The Diaconate, Pastor’s Aid ministry, LABC Mass Choir, Culinary ministry, Nurse’s ministry and the Forever Young ministry. In 2011, she joined King George Church of God under the leadership of Rev. Lance Bacon. She continued to be a beacon of light there under the leadership of Pastor Milton Carter.

Pansy and William loved to travel. Vacation was a must every year. They would take the family annually to their favorite vacation spots: Wildwood, NJ and visiting Aunt Bea in Covington, KY, Uncle Clayton in Sharon, PA, and Uncle Wilbur in Palmyra, NJ. Pansy traveled to numerous states in the US, cruised the islands and flew to Germany and Paris. Her most enjoyable trip was her train ride from Portland, OR to British Columbia, Canada.

Pansy was preceded in death by her husband William Bumbrey, her sisters, Juanita Washington, Clara Bland, Mary Clark, Margie “Bunch” Bumbrey and her brother, Charles “Eddie” Scranage. She is survived by her three children, Melvin, Sterling and Rowena, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Perry L. Scranage, Sr. (Mary Bell) of King George, VA and one sister-in-law, Minerva Scranage, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
