Loving and dedicated, mother sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, aunt, niece, cousin and Christian friend; Ora Rebecca Hepburn, wife of the late Raymond Hepburn, Sr. answered her Father's call to eternal glory on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at her home in Saint Stephens Church Virginia.
Revecca was the first born to the late Calvin and Dedie Greene on May 20, 1933 in Salvia, VA. She accepted Jesus Christ as he Lord and Saviour at an eraly age at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Sparta, VA. After completing her education in Caroline County, VA, She movedto Philadelphia. There she resided with her loving aunt Fleet who introduced her to her future husband of 49 years, Raymond Hepburn, Sr. Their union was blessed with four children.
The family joined New Macedonia Baptist Church, where Rebecca joyfully used her time and God-given talents to His glory by serving as a Deaconess, Missionary, Willing worker, Youth Choir Advisor, Sunday-School Worker and member of the Kitchen Committee.
Rebecca was mutil-talented and expressed her love by sharing her gifts. She particularly enjoyed sewing, gardening, and cooking. Often the host of large family gatherings, she loved to prepare large meals during holidays and other special occasions. She was a talented seamstress, and put together many fashionable creations for friends and loved ones over the years. Having a green thumb, her home was filled with a beautiful variety of flowers and plants. Her greatest gift, however, was making you feel the warmth and love of always being right at home with her.
In 1988, Rebecca returned with her husband to St, Stephens Church, VA. Their home was filled with love, laughter, and fond memories of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she took great pride and joy in nurturing with her unforgettable words of wisdom and guidance. She was affectionately referred to as "Sista" by her siblings, "Becky" by friends and "Gum-Gum" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Upon returning to Virginia, Rebecca was a caregiver to her parents. She also united with First Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she continued in dedicated service to the Lord as a Deaconess.
Rebecca was lovingly cared for by her family, Notably, grandsons Christopher and Corey honoring their promise to "Poppy" to take care of her. Because of Rebecca's steadfast faith and unwavering trust in the Lord, she remained strong in spite of her declining health. One of her favorite bible quotes was'Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6. Her faith was only strengthened by her struggle.
Preceded in death by her husband, Paymond Hepburn, Sr., Rebecca leaves to cherish her memory, four children: Raymond Hepburn, Jr.(Mary) of Milton, VT, Regina Hepburn(Leon) of Highland Springs, VA, Lisa Edwards (Clyde) of Saint Stephens Church, VA, Reginald Hepburn (Valearia) of New Kent, VA, one brother: Howard Greene (Romaine) of Milford, VA, two sisters: Brenda Pitts of Richmond, VA and Julie Brown(Melvin) of Spotsylvaina, VA, eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one godson: DuRon Pitts (Leah) of DeWitt, NY, and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends.
We loved her chocolate cake, but it was her recipe of love that nurtured of souls!
Lovingly submitted,
The Family
