Deaconess Opal Lucile Bushrod departed this life on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia after a brief illness. She was born December 24, 1928 in Westmorland County, Virginia to the late Joseph E. and Nena B. Ball. She graduated from A.T. Johnson High School in Westmoreland County, Virginia.
Opal was united in Holy Matrimony to David Bushrod on September 30, 1950. From this union, three sons were born.
Deaconess Bushrod accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and joined the Grants Hill Baptist Church in Leedstown, Virginia where she was a faithful member. She later joined her husband at Macedonia Baptist Church under Watchcare membership where she served as a Deaconess. She moved her membership to become a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in recent years.
Deaconess Bushrod retired from King George County Schools after 39 years during which time she drove a school bus and later taught Driver Education. She was a member of the King George Branch NAACP, Charter Member of Guiding Star #216 Order of Eastern Star of King George, Virginia. She was a member of the King George County Democratic Committee and an advocate worker during State and Local elections.
Opal was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband David of 60 years. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Iantha and Effie; four brothers, Ozie, Earl, Harvey and Elvin.
Opal leaves to cherish her many memories, three sons, Wayne (Sheryl) of King George, Virginia, David Keith of Bristow, Virginia and Gregory (Adrienne) of Sacramento, California; three Grandchildren, Jasmine Bushrod, Christian Bushrod and Taylor Bushrod; three sisters, Jessie Brown, Hazel Pierce and Regina El; two brother in laws, Arthur Bushrod, James Bushrod; two sister in laws, Idabell Bushrod and Hazel Bushrod, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
