Nellie Ruth Saunders, daughter of the late Joe Wilson, and the late Nora Small Robinson was born May 16, 1923 in Bacon County, Georgia, was called to come home by the Lord on November 15, 2010 after short illness.
Nellie moved to New York, where she worked in domestics. While in New York, she met and married the late Vertis (Bicky) Saunders. They moved to Virginia in 1976, and she continued her work in domestics. She joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church and served faithfully on the nurses' board, Pastor's Aide, Hospitality and Seniors in Action.
She was known for her sweet potato and apple pies. Her favorite singer was Mahalia Jackson, after her stroke, she couldn't read; but by the grace of God she never forgot the Lord's Prayer, which she recited every day.
