Nellie Evans

Nellie Evans, daughter of the late Richard and Inez Hoban Evans, was born February 24, 1946 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. She departed this life at her residence in Richmond, Virginia, November 11, 2005. She had suffered many health problems for a number of years.

At an early age she accepted Christ and joined the Little Zion Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Rev. W. S. DeVaughan. Nellie was a graduate of A. T. Johnson High School in Montross, Virginia. After graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she was employed as a Secretary with The Department of Employment Services for the Federal Government before retiring after 25 years. After retirement, she moved to Richmond where she spent the last days of her life. Nellie was a quiet lady who loved to laugh and talk to others, especially about the Goodness of the Lord. She would often travel back to Washington, D.C. to the Scripture Cathedral Church where Bishop C. L. Long is pastor, whether by bus or car she enjoyed making that trip to worship there.

Nellie was preceded in death by her uncles, Rev. Robert Hoban and Carl Hoban. She leaves to cherish her memory: three sisters, Alice Parker and Joan Evans of Richmond, Virginia, Regina Bailey of Maryland; one brother, Richard Evans of Colonial Beach, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
