Mildred Lucas

May 7, 1941 — September 12, 2014

Mildred Lucas

In the early morning hours on September 12, 2014 "Boots" closed her eyes and peacefully entered into eternal rest in the arms of the Heavenly Father.

Born on May 7, 1941 in King George County, Virginia, Mildred "Boots" Virginia Lucas was the daughter of the late Murphy Tate and Addie Lucas and step-daughter of Abraham Lucas. She was preceded in death by her brother, Leon Lucas. Early in life she accepted Christ and joined Good Hope Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Ralph E. Cabbell. She received her education in King George County, speaking fondly of her memories from Ralph Bunche School.

"Boots" was employed by the United States Postal Service in Washington, D.C. before returning home and settling in Westmoreland County. After her return, she was a private house keeper, a cook at Ola's Country Kitchen, and then a custodian at NSWC, Dahlgren, where she retired after 39 years. She spent the last ten years caring for her great grandchildren, and showered special attention on Jasmine, the "glue" from God that keeps us together.

"Boots" is survived by 5 children: Debbie Lucas (special daughter), Colonial Beach, VA, Vivian Lucas, Woodbridge, VA, Emily Fortune (Ira), Killeen, TX, Audra Lucas-Peyton (Ronnie), Colonial Beach, VA, and Ronald Lucas, King George, VA; 8 grandchildren: Alvin Lucas (Amy), Chanel Cabiness (Anthony), LaTasha Lucas, Sherika McGinniss (Jason), Keiya Roy, Lawrence Roy, Jr., Nicole Fortune, LaTrish Lucas-Peyton; and 14 great-grandchildren: Saki, Jasmine, Darrien, Jordan, Noah, Ksauyn, Zayne, Jalen, Jadyn, Brendan, Jocelyn, Amoni, Harmony, and Justin.

She also leaves to cherish her memory one brother, Maurice Lucas and one sister, Gloria Roy; a special nephew, Robert (Bank) Lucas; special nieces, Linda Peyton, Manya Ball and Helena Jacob; and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her special friends, Shirley Martinez, Janice Kelly and Inetta Johnson.

"Boots" gave love to all in the community and had a special place in her heart for Darren and David Shelton, Terrance and Terrell Kelly, Inesha Thompson and Brittany Jones. She gave that same caring love to her favorite pet "Oscar".
