Deaconess Melvina B. Harvey, daughter of the late Deacon Melvin Brown and Deaconess Lucie J. Brown, slipped away into eternal rest at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, King George, Virginia.
She joined Union Bethel Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Brooks and served on the Usher Board, the Pastor Aid Committee, Flower Club and several church choirs. Later, she was installed as a Deaconess under Reverend George Bumbrey.
Deaconess Melvina Harvey was a dedicated, faithful and caring member until her health failed. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and caring for her flowers as well as cooking for her family. She was known as Grandma to many children that she adopted as her own, with a very pleasant, calm and peaceful way about her. She loved being surrounded by her family, looked forward to holidays and other special occasions.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late John M. Harvey, Sr. from this union they were blessed with five children; John M. Harvey, Jr., Delwyn R. Harvey (Maxine), Delphine H Hunter (Freddie), Wayne K. Harvey (Della), Yvonne R. Harvey (Bernard) and as she would always say, "my other daughter" Etta J. Lucas.
She leaves to mourn her five children; her brother, Deacon Luthern M. Brown and sister-in-law, Helen C. Brown; fifteen grandchildren, Regina Peyton, Lorraine Woods, Clarissa Harvey, Wendell Harvey, Marcia Ford, Angela Harvey, Delwyn Harvey, Marcus Hunter Sean Harvey Stephanie Hunter, Alexandra Harvey, Uniqua Harvey, Emmanuel Harvey, Cortez Harvey, Akirra Harvey; seven great-grandchildren; one niece; one nephew and a host of other cousins and friends from all walk of life.
