Melvin Henry Maloy, affectionately known as Mel and Reno, was born August 18, 1928 to the late Tim and Elizabeth Maloy. Mel transitioned peacefully from this earthly life to Eternal Life on November 28, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Rose.
Mel received his education in the public schools in San Antonio, Texas. He accepted Christ at an early age. Mel was a passionate outdoors men, having a great love for fishing, which rubbed off on his son Andre and grandson "Lil Tim." He enjoyed telling stories about his childhood and his days in the military. He could be found any time in his recliner watching Bonanza and Gun Smoke. He was a huge fan of the Redskins and always expressed his passion for them during their games. He would at times take a break and drive to Texas to visit his family and there would be no stopping unless it was a bathroom break. All sight-seeing was done from the car window.
Mel served in the U.S. military for 24 years, first joining the U.S. Air Force and later enlisting in the U.S. Army. He received the Bronze Service Star, World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupational Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mel enjoyed life and never wanted to bother anyone for anything. Up until his health caused him to slow down, he was very active, running his errands, splitting wood for his wood pile, cutting his grass, helping his son Timmy with cutting his grass (all while telling him he was doing it wrong), and laughing with his grandkids.
Mel was preceded in death by sisters Erma Lee Thomas and Edna Muriel Fillmore.
Mel leaves to cherish his memories, three sons, Timothy Maloy (LaShawn), Andre Maloy and Kevin Lee, all of Ruther Glen, VA, nine grandchildren, a devoted niece Devon Williams, two devoted nephews Larry Filmore and Marshall Washington, and a host of other relatives and friends.
