Fight the good fight of faith, Lay hold on eternal life. I Timothy 6:12
Very quietly and peacefully on November 23, 2013, our Heavenly Father in His infinite wisdom gently closed the eyes of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather as he entered into his eternal rest.
McKinley "Mac" McPhatter was born February 5, 1927 in Red Springs, North Carolina to the late McKinley McPhatter and Flora Smith. He attended the public schools of Red Springs. He married his sweetheart, Mary Louise Moore on January 20, 1951. To that union they were blessed with four children, Renee, Annette, McKinley "Sonny", and Iris. He was preceded in death by his only son, McKinley "Sonny" McPhatter, III, two brothers, Earl Galbreath and Vardell McPhatter, and one sister Mary Grace.
Mac, as he was affectionately called, was baptized by the late Leroy M. Bray on September 1, 1967 and became a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church where he was a devoted worker. He served on the Trustee Ministry, Cemetery Ministry and sang with the Male Chorus. He also served as the Financial Secretary. He enjoyed attending Sunday School regularly and studying God's Word.
Mac was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1948 and was also a member of the Jonathan Davis Consistory No. 1.32 degree in Washington, DC. He retired from the General Services Administration as a supervisor after 25 years of dedicated service. After his retirement, he worked at Lake Land 'Or and the Caroline County School System.
Mac was a devoted husband and father. He was a caring, loving and giving person and often spoke on the achievements of his children. He was especially proud to have a doctor in the family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him much joy. His acts and words were always kind and he was willing to help not only his family, but friends and neighbors as well. He loved barbecuing and fishing and enjoyed inviting friends over for family gatherings. Dad will be greatly missed, but we know that he is in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Mary, his wife of 63 years, three daughters, Renee Smith (Rev. Jesse Smith), Annette McPhatter and Iris McPhatter; two grandchildren, Jessica Smith and Justin Smith (Amy Smith); two great grandchildren, Justice McKinley and Nixson Ray Smith; a beloved sister, Vera Murphy; special nephews Earl Galbreath and Harvey "Chico" Brown; special nieces Sharon Brown and Deborah Brown-Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
