Mary “Lou” Moore McPhatter
“I’ve fought the good fight, I have finished the race,
I have kept the faith” – 2 Timothy 4:7

Very quietly and peacefully on March 28, 2020, our Heavenly Father in His infinite wisdom gently closed the eyes of our beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother, as she entered into His eternal rest surrounded by her daughters.
Mary “Lou” Moore McPhatter was born on July 4, 1929, in Caroline County, Virginia to the late Enoch Moore and Irene Johnson. She attended the public schools of Caroline County and attended Nursing school after her high school graduation. She married her sweetheart, the late McKinley “Mac” McPhatter on January 20, 1951. To that union they were blessed with four children, Renee, Annette, McKinley “Sonny”, and Iris. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, McKinley “Mac” McPhatter and her only son, McKinley “Sonny” McPhatter, III, her mother and father, the late Enoch and Irene Moore, her brother, Clent “Kenny” Moore, and her sister, Audrey “Sis” Brown.
Lou as she was affectionally called was a faithful member for over 60 years of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ruther Glen until her health declined. She served on various ministries to include the Church Clerk, the Senior Choir and the Deaconess Ministry.
Mary worked for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for 27 years and retired on June, 1991. After her retirement, she lovingly cared for her mother and had previously served as the caregiver for her brother before his passing. When her sister’s health began to decline, she took up her nursing skills one again and cared for her as well. She will be remembered lovingly as one who went out of her way to help others in their time of need.
We thank God for our Mother. We praise Him for our time of fellowship and especially the opportunity we had just last July when we celebrated her 90th birthday. She was so happy and we will always reflect on those memories. We will miss you Mom and love you so, but God loved you more.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Renee M. Smith (Jesse),Dr. Annette McPhatter and Iris McPhatter, two grandchildren, Jessica and Justin (Erin) Smith, and three great grandchildren, Justice McKinley, Nixson Ray and Mya Michelle Smith. Special nephews, Earl Galbreath, Jr., Harvey “Chico” Brown, special nieces; Sharon Brown and Deborah Brown-Smith and, Valerie Z. Brown, a special friend and caregiver; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
