Mary Magdalene Mcdowney

Mary Magdalene Richards McDowney was born to the late Mary Johnson and Lander Richards on August 7, 1928 in Westmoreland County, VA. On the afternoon of Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital, she went to be with the Lord while surrounded by loved-ones.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who was affectionately known as "Grandma Maggie". Magdalene thoroughly enjoyed gardening, coloring books, word search puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She received her education from the King George County School System.

At an early age, she confessed her love to Christ, and accepted Him as her personal Savior; she joined Salem Baptist Church in King George, VA. She loved her church, and served as an usher for many years.

In 1950, she married her loving and devoted husband, William Andrew McDowney, Sr. This union was blessed with seven children, one of whom preceded her in death, Michael McDowney. She was also preceded in death by two older siblings, Elmer Richards and Geraldine Johnson.

To cherish her memories, Magdalene leaves six children: William "Duck" McDowney, Jr.(Wanda), Murphy McDowney (Evelyn), Charles "Eddie Boy" McDowney (Leola), all of King George VA; James McDowney of Glouster, VA, Mary "GiGi" Riley, and Dale McDowney (Roselea) both of Colonial Beach, VA; twenty grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; three brothers-in-law: Abraham McDowney, Clarence McDowney, and Rev. Welford McDowney; six sisters-in-law: Mary Simms, Rosa Mae Richards, Virginia McDowney, Beulah McDowney, Louise McDowney, and Elizabeth McDowney; one great-uncle, Isaac Johnson; a special friend, Ms. Vernice Gilkey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
