Mary Laverne (Bonnie) Williams entered this life on January 16, 1943, the 4th of 8 children born to the late Walker and Annie Laura Ferguson. Mary, a true servant of God, loving mother, devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, and loyal sister, made her journey Home on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.
Mary’s loving smile and warm personality would light up the room, and she drew everyone she met to her. Also, she had a passionate love for the color red, be it shoes, clothes, or jewelry.
Mary had a loving relationship with all of her children.
She had a special bond with her only son, Donald. The two of them would speak every day by phone. He would drop everything to make the 4-hour drive to Durham to see to her needs.
She was very happy living with her baby daughter and caretaker, Sharon, until God called her home.
Bonnie had a full life, leaving her hometown of Bowling Green, VA to settle in Yonkers, New York for several years, working in her profession as a nurse’s assistant at St. Joseph’s Hospital. While still in New York, she reunited with the love of her life, David Williams. They married and made their home in Durham, NC, where she worked at the Durham County Health Department (Lincoln) until her failing health led to an early retirement.
She was a devoted member of West Durham Baptist Church, where she worked on several ministries. She loved her West Durham Baptist Church Family.
She was predeceased by her late husband David Williams, her daughter, Pamela Williams, her brothers John A. Ferguson and Arthur Lee Ferguson, and sisters Carol Barrington Ferguson, Frances Maxine Coleman, and Eleanor Elliot Hunt.
Mary is survived by three daughters: Charlene Ferguson of Petersburg, VA, JoAnn Luckett (David) of Hampton, VA, Sharon Dudley of Ashland, VA., one son: Donald Moore (Irene) of Columbia, SC, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, a brother Anthony “Tony” Ferguson, a loving and devoted sister, Gloria Gray (Mike), a host of nieces and nephews, and loving friends Loretta Covington, Ralph Reid, and Ola Brown-Ford.
