Mary Elizabeth Smith

Mary Elizabeth Smith, lovingly called "Doodle" or Elizabeth by friends and family, departed this on Monday, January 12, 2009 at her home on Jericho Road when God dispatched an angel for her.

Elizabeth was born on September 17, 1925 to the late Rev. Richard & Bessie Williams in Upper Zion (Fort A.P. Hill). She attended Free Mission School and Union High School. After moving to Ruther Glen, Virginia, she became a member of the Jericho Baptist Church where she was a faithful member of the Senior Choir.

Elizabeth also worked as a machine operator for more than 20 years at Keller's Aluminum Plant in Milford, Virginia before retiring. She was united in marriage to William T. Smith, Jr. (Bubbie) for 60 years before preceding her in death. Their union was a happy and loving one and Elizabeth's motto was "Do unto to others as you would have them do unto you". She enjoyed cooking and you could always find her in the kitchen making those homemade biscuits or in her flower garden - tending to those flowers that she loved as she was an avid gardener. Passerby often stopped to compliment her on them.

Elizabeth was a joy to all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, aunt and sister. She lovingly mothered the children of her sisters (Jenet and Lucy) that went home to heaven before her. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters; Brenda Walker of Adelphi, Maryland and Linda Smith of Richmond, Virginia; One granddaughter, Tia Smith of Richmond, Virginia; one sister; Hazel Smith (Otis) of Ruther Glen, Virginia; one brother Lewis Williams (Marian) of Dawn, Virginia; six brother-in-law; six sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephew and other relatives and friends.
