Mary Bernice King was born in St Mary's County Maryland October 11, 1924 to James A. Young and Edith Y. Mack.
She quietly departed this life Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Mallory Rehab and Assisted Living Center in Denver Colorado.
She was educated in the public school system of Washington, D.C. She was a member of St Gabriel's Catholic Church in Avenue Maryland. Upon moving to Stafford, VA in 1962, she joined Oak Grove Baptist Church where she served many years on the usher ministries and many other ministries. In her later years as she moved to Henrico, VA, she joined Mt Olive Baptist Church in Glen, Allen, Va.
In 1944 she married Ralph M. King. To that union they were blessed with 5 children; and also was credited the rearing of 2 other sons and one daughter.
"Bernice" as she was commonly known was out going and full of life. She enjoyed being around family and friends. For many years during the week of vacation bible school at Oak Grove Baptist Church, she would keep many of her younger grandchildren, nieces and nephews and take them to church for the entire week. To all of the family it became known as "Camp Widewater." Many of the family from Washington, DC and Maryland always enjoyed coming to visit Ralph and Bernice in the "country" especially the annual Memorial Day celebration cook-out at the house.
Bernice was predeceased by her husband, mother and father, sisters Lillian and Teresa; brothers James, Richard, Lawrence and John; son Clarence Hawkins. She leaves to cherish one sister Mary Bertha Agee, one brother-in-law Calvin Jones. Children; Donald M. King (Marjorie), Gloria M. Brown, Antoinette M. McCullough, Debra Lancaster Johnson, Ralph M. King (Lisha), Leroy M. King (Ma. Luningning); 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
