Marrill William Purce, Sr. son of the late Fred and Mary Purce, was born on August 19, 1933 in Caroline County, Virginia. He was one of eight children. Preceding him in death were four brothers, John Purce, Farrish Purce, Freddie Purce, Charles Purce and one sister, Julia Purce. He was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at the Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Virginia.
At an early age, he accepted Christ and through baptismal joined the Little Zion Baptist Church.
Marrill received his education in the public school systems of Caroline County and Westmoreland County, Virginia. In September 1952, he was united in holy matrimony to the late Margaret Elaine Smith. To this union one son and four daughters were born. This union was later dissolved by divorce.Later Marrill met and married the late Dorothy Griffith.
He was employed at what was then known as the Naval Surface Proving Ground Dahlgren, Virginia as a laborer. He was then drafted into the army and served for two years. Upon returning to civilian life, he was reemployed at his federal government job in Dahlgren, Virginia from which he held various positions. He retired as a heavy equipment operator on September 30, 1988 after serving over 35 years.
He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was happiest when spending time with his family. His favorite past times were fishing, hunting, watching old shows on TV Land and was an avid Washington Redskins fan.
He leaves to cherish precious memory five children: Evelyn Wise (Thomas) of Montross, Virginia, Vernessa Carey (Carl) of Fort Washington, Maryland, Marrill Purce Jr. (Brenda) of Colonial Beach, Virginia, Allison Scott (Stephen) of Providence Forge, Virginia, Patrice Hernandez (Isaac) of Springfield, Virginia; one granddaughter, Nadia Hernandez; two grandsons DeRon Purce and Terren Wise; one great grandson Daveon Purce; one sister Selena Johnson (Thomas) of Clinton, Maryland as well of a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and acquaintances far too numerous to name.
