On Wednesday, August 16, 2006, Mark Bacon passed from this life. Mark had many roles in his life; husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, USPS employee, US Army Officer, and a good friend to many. In each of these roles, Mark put forth his ultimate and carried out his responsibilities as a man on a full mission of success.
Mark, the third son of Eugene and Althea C. Bacon, was born October 10, 1947 in Washington, D.C. He attended McKinley High School graduating in 1965. He was drafted into military service in November 1966 and served in Vietnam where he earned two air medals and the Bronze Star. After seven years of active duty, Mark and his family moved to Columbia, MD where he attended college and restarted his USPS career. After four years, Mark graduated from the Universitiy of Maryland Baltimore County with honors. Mark's USPS career credits him with 32 years of service where he worked hard, respected his co-workers, and was dedicated to assuring the best service for the postal customers.
In 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Rhondra Harrison, whom he loved passionately. Together they had one daughter Kristin Camille, born in 1973, and two grandsons, Christopher Mark and Jalen Matthew. Mark was a family man who cherished each moment with his family. Family gatherings with friends and the antics of his grandsons were what he enjoyed most. His family was the joy of his life.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Rhondra, his wife; Kristin his daugther; Christopher and Jalen his grandsons; Althea Carroll Bacon, his mother; Marjorie K. Alston, his mother-in-law; Althea C. Bacon his only sister; Eugene (Mike), Keith and Kevin, his brothers; Beverly, a devoted sister-in-law; Helen Allean, Trachelle, and Kia, his nieces; Jermaine and Fred, whom he cherised like sons; Corey, his Godson; and a host of other relatives, special people, friends, and coworkers.
Mark lived each day fully always giving the full experience of his love. The character of his life might be summed up in a few words: he was sincere; he was earnest; he was loyal; and he never dodged a responsibility. What Mark believed, he believed with heart and soul.
