It all began on December 16, 1927 when God blessed the late Edward and Addie Scranage with a beautiful baby girl who they named Margie. Her father affectionately called her "Bunch".
Bunch was educated in King George, VA where she attended Little Ark Elementary School and graduated from Edgehill Training School.
On July 18, 1948, Bunch married Richard Bumbrey, Sr. To this union God blessed them with three children. One daughter, Judith; two sons, Richard, Jr. and Timothy. Adding to the joy of her life were her grand children, T.J. and Kennedy.
Bunch grew up in a Christian home and attended the Little Ark Baptist Church. After accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, she joined Little Ark Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend George Carter.
She was actively involved in many ministries which included Diaconate, Missionary, Culinary, Pastor's Aide, Forever Young Ministry, Music and Ushers'. She remained a faithful and dedicated member at the Little Ark Baptist Church until 2011, when she joined the Church of God in King George, VA under the leadership of Pastor Lance Bacon. She found joy, peace and power in her weekly bible studies that enhanced her spiritual walk.
Bunch was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Richard Bumbrey, Sr., three sisters, Clara Bland, Mary Clark and Juanita Washington; one brother, Charles "Eddie" Scranage and her God-son, Lawrence Johnson, Jr.
To cherish her memories, she leaves her daughter, Judith Jabgir (Barry), Dahlgren, VA; two sons, Richard Bumbrey, Jr., Panama City, FL; Timothy Bumbrey (Elizabeth), Haymarket, VA; her grand children, T.J. and Kennedy; one sister, Pansy Bumbrey; one brother, Perry Scranage, Sr.; one aunt, Thelma Stanford; two dedicated care givers, niece Alicia and Rainey Mutua; two sisters-in-laws, Mary Bell Scranage and Annie Scranage and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was an avid vacationer. Her travels allowed her to visit many east coast states. Additionally, she traveled to Canada, Germany, Paris, Bahamas, Grand Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Cozumel, but her favorite vacation spot was Williamsburg, VA.
Additionally, she loved fellowshipping with family and friends where she could display her culinary talents, such as her famous chicken salad, meatballs and banana pudding.
People gravitated to Bunch and she made them feel as if they were part of her family. Many called her "Mom" and "Grandma", but we called her Blessed. She opened her home to many Pastors, new families entering the area and friends. No one was a stranger to her. Whenever family and friends stopped by to see her they were always welcomed by her warm hospitality.
Early Friday morning, November 8, 2013, God dispatched an angel to Mary Washington Hospital with an invitation. He invited her to come and enter her final resting place, a place where she can "Walk Around Heaven All Day". She quietly and peacefully accepted!
