On a blessed fall day, October 30, 1937 to be exact; Maggie Bell King was
born to the late Geraldine Amy Campbell and Tolson Harvey in Jersey,
Virginia. On Wednesday, August 3, 2016, our heavenly Father ushered our
beloved Maggie to eternal rest while at her home in King George, Virginia.
She received her education from Welcome, Edgehill Training and Ralph
Bunch schools. Maggie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized
at Salem Baptist Church. She later joined Antioch Baptist Church where
she served as a Sunday School teacher, President of the Pastor's Aide
committee, Captain for Homecoming Rally Day and was a member of the
Authentic Gospel Singers. Maggie consistently occupied the third pew on
the right side of the church where she was seen dancing and exalting our
Lord until her health prohibited her from doing so.
Maggie enjoyed cooking, canning, caring for children, attending yard sales,
going on road trips with her family and her all time favorite, praising the
Lord. She was employed at Mount Rose Canning Company, Cleaves Farm
and White Packing Company. She was also the owner & operator of a
local convenience store, Buddy's Superette in Dogue, VA and successfully
ran a home daycare business.
Many valuable lessons and teachings were passed on to her children but
most importantly she taught them the power of prayer and to put God first
in ALL things. For her grandchildren and children under her care, she
would be seen mending 'boo-boos' with natural remedies, comforting
broken hearts and teaching them about Jesus. Her residence wasn't a house
but a home that welcomed and fed all. She was well known to vividly
exclaim, 'Praise the Lord!' at every opportunity.
Maggie had 7 brothers that preceded her in death, Lloyd Harvey, Nathaniel
Harvey, John Harvey, Charlie Harvey, Curtis Campbell Sr., Enoish
Campbell and Clyde Robinson; and 1 sister, Hattie Hallowell. To cherish
her precious memories, she leaves her loving and devoted husband of 46
years, Robert C. King and her 10 children and 1 foster child; Theresa
(Frankie Sr.) White, Esther Brown, Martha McDowney, William (Carol)
Harrison Jr., Willimae Harrison, Oleasa (Tommie) Daniels, Billy (Marion)
King, Sandra King, Kathy (Ernest) Coleman, Jennifer Lynn Shelton all of
King George, Virginia and Matthew Persaud of Charlotte, North Carolina;
30 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Leonard (Bernice)
Harvey of Hyattsville, Maryland and Ben (Barbara) Harvey of Satellite
Beach, Florida; 1 sister, Ernestine (Robert) Johnson of King George,
Virginia, 1 uncle Dave (Nora) Robinson of Wilmington, Delaware; 1
brother-in-law, William (Doris) Scott of King George, Virginia;
3 sister-inlaws,
Sandra Grant of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mary Betty Harvey and
Mamie Harvey both of King George, Virginia, a very close friend, Maria
'Louise' White and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
