Luthern M. Brown, Sr.

Deacon Luthern M. Brown, Sr., son of the late Deacon Melvin R. Brown and Deaconess Lucie J. Brown, slipped away into eternal rest at Mary Washington Hospital Fredericksburg, Virginia. In addition to his parents, sister Melvina Harvey, niece Yvonne and nephew John predeceased him.

Deacon Brown accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at Union Bethel Baptist Church at the age of 14 under the leadership of Reverend Brooks. He served on the Usher Board, Pastor Aid Committee, several church choirs, and was the church custodian. In 1972, he was installed as a Deacon under the leadership of the late Reverend George Bumbry. He later became Chairman of the Deacon Board where he served as a faithful, humble man of God for over 50 years.

Deacon Brown attended the King George Training School in King George. After leaving school, from April 1952 to April 1954, Deacon Brown served in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

Upon returning to King George, VA, he was united in Holy Matrimony in May 1954 to Helen Campbell. They were married for 65 years. From that union, they were blessed with two children: Luthern M., Jr. and Leona. Deacon Brown and his wife both acquired employment as civilians at the United States Marine Corps located in Quantico, VA. They commuted together every day until their retirement.

Deacon Brown leaves to cherish loving memories: his son Luthern M. Brown, Jr., daughter Leona M. Brown, and a special friend Cheryl Chapman who he loved as a daughter. Also sharing special family memories are three beloved and caring niece and nephews: Delphine Hunter (Freddie), Delwyn Harvey (Maxine), and Wayne Harvey (Della). A host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends have loving memories to cherish also.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” Psalm 23:1
