"I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth." Psalms 34:1
On Tuesday, July 5, 2016 in the early morning hour, God accompanied by his angels quietly slipped into the room of Lue Ella Garnett and whispered you have fought a good fight, you have kept the faith, henceforth there is laid up for you a crown of righteousness.
Lue Ella Garnett was born to the late James and Mary Johnson on July 14, 1914 in Caroline County, Virginia. She received her formal education in Caroline County, Virginia. Lue Ella confessed her love of God at an early age, as a young girl Lue Ella developed a passion with singing the gospel. No matter where Lue Ella would go she would sing praises unto God. Lue Ella joined Salem Baptist Church in King George, Virginia, she also worked at Mt. Olive Pickle Factory for many years. She was married to the late William Frank Garnett and with this union they had four daughters, Annie, Mary Alice, Hattie, and Shirley. As time went on Lue Ella and her late husband William Frank relocated to Arlington, Virginia.
Lue Ella continued working where she was employed with Shirley Duke Inc. until she was 96 years old when she retired.
She joined Mt. Salvation Baptist Church as a Watch Care Member on January 25, 1953, under N.R. Richardson as Pastor. Under Pastor Elias Wells Fitcherd, Jr. he ordained Lue Ella Garnett, as a Deaconess of Mt. Salvation Baptist Church. During this time frame she also was appointed Mother-of-the-Church. Choirs she sang in: Royal Echoes and NR Richardson Sanctuary Choir.
Lue Ella was a virtuous woman and a woman of faith. Lue Ella was a wise woman when different situation would arise she always had words of wisdom like, "Where is your faith?", "Where is your love." When you asked Lue Ella how was she doing? She would always say, "I am thanking God for my time." Not only did she serve in the Lord's House, but she would open her home to many of her family, friends, and even people she did not know. You always had place at her dinner table no matter what time it was and she never turned her back on anyone nor did she judge anyone. Since she was so faithful with her walk with God, God continued to bless her and her home.
She leaves to cherish her memories: four daughters, Annie Garnett, Mary Alice Coleman (deceased James Sr.), Hattie McCormick (deceased Gilbert Sr.), and Shirley Mason (Russell Sr.); her sister Mary Betty Harvey; sister-in-law Fannie Lee Johnson; host of nephews and nieces, but we all knew that Deacon William Johnson held a special place in her heart. She leaves behind (19) grandchildren (3) deceased, (40) great grand, (47) great great grand, and a host of great nieces and nephews, and relatives and friends. To a wonderful mother, sister and aunt, you will be greatly missed, but know that if we live the life you showed us through your trust and faith in God, we will see you again one day.
