Lucille Victoria Vaughan Weeks was born on February 2, 1923, in Port Royal, Virginia to the late Walter B. Vaughan and Elizabeth Green. She was the second daughter born of five children. Lucille had a humble heart and sweet spirit that others felt while in her presence. After a long struggle with her health, mom's loving spirit ended with the Lord on Monday, February 13, 2012.
In Caroline County, Virginia she received her education from the Free Mission grade school and the Union High School. Prior to fully completing her high school years, she decided to leave Virginia and relocate to New Jersey to work because of the hard times during the 1940's.
Lucille moved to Trenton, New Jersey in the 1940's to live with her late Aunt Victoria where she found employment. She later relocated to Newark, New Jersey and began working for various industrial industries which enabled her to financially help support her parents back in Virginia. In later years, she became a school crossing guard in the city of Linden, New Jersey.
Mother met the late handsome and friendly David Charles Weeks, and they were married and blessed with three children: Carolyn, Ronald, and Vera. She accepted the Three Angels Message and was baptized on April 17, 1954, under the pastoral leadership of J. H. Lester and became a member of Trinity Temple SDA Church in Newark, New Jersey. As an active and faithful member of the church, she served on the Usher Board, Hospitality Committee, and in the Dorcas Society/Community Service ministry. In relocating back to Virginia she became a member of the Ephesus SDA Church, in Richmond, Virginia where she was a faithful Sabbath school member and was a member of the 55 Plus Club. She later transferred to Maranatha SDA Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia and continued to be a faithful member until her health declined.
With her love for cooking, she entertained family and friends. Some of her favorite dishes that she enjoyed cooking were: delicious sweet potato pie, scrumptious chocolate cake, mouth-watering pound cake, moist coconut cake, delightful lemon meringue pie, creamy corn pudding, candied sweet potatoes, and southern collard greens. She put her love and joy into serving these wonderful dishes every time she cooked. Mom's other passions included gardening, sewing, and jig saw puzzling. People knew her most by her quiet and gentle spirit.
Lucille Weeks was preceded in death by her husband, David Charles Weeks.
She leaves to cherish her memory three children; Carolyn L. Nobles (Johnnie) of Durham, NC; Ronald C. Weeks (Vera) of Brockton, MA; Vera D. Mathis of Henrico, VA; two brothers; Ernest Vaughan of Plainfield, NJ; James Vaughan (Rose) of King George, VA; two sisters; Mary Mayer of King George, VA; Pauline Adams of King George, VA; two grandchildren; Venetta Weeks of Brockton, MA; Jasmine Mathis of Henrico, VA; one brother-in-law Andrew Brown of Rahway, NJ; two god-sons; Tyrone McKinnis of NJ; James Albrook of NJ; one god-daughter; Sharon McDonald; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
