Livina Pallin Harvey Braxton, lovingly known as Aunt Vina, was born on May 15, 1928 to the late Rev. Watson R. Harvey, Sr. and Mrs. Cora B. Hill Harvey. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at the First Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Newtown, VA. She sang in several church choirs and participated in many church activities as a child and young adult.
Livina attended King and Queen Training School where she was on the basketball team and graduated in 1946. She married the “Love of Her Life,” William (Bill) Braxton on March 12, 1949. Later that year they moved to Philadelphia, PA where they shared a loving and caring relationship as they both worked hard, but always found time to spend with the family and friends. They both attended White Rock Baptist Church and sang with the Gloria Gospel Singers. Livina loved family gatherings, playing games, traveling, singing, music, and dancing.
Livina worked for the City of Philadelphia for many years as a nurse’s aide. She retired and moved back home to Newtown, in 1990. She was a very active member at First Mt. Olive serving in several positions, and participating in various ministries. Aunt Vina especially enjoyed the Senior Ministry where she made lap covers, quilts, and her famous Yo-Yos.
Livina was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and her siblings: Emory, Clara, Mariah, Ellen, Lourene, Katie, Virginia, Ruffin, Watson, Jr., and a special niece, Doris. She leaves to cherish her memory; one God-child, Livina Vanessa Alston of Philadelphia, PA, two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Johnson of Philadelphia. PA, Carolyn Alsop of Richmond, VA, one brother-in-law, Clyde Johnson of Philadelphia, PA, many, many nieces and nephews, (great, great-great, great-great-great), along with cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
In her later years, Aunt Vina chose Ann Alsop Lowery to help her manage life’s requirements and situations. To that end, very special gratitude and appreciation are given to Carrie Alsop, Clara Jackson, Ann Washington, and Connie Harvey, for the extraordinary loving care, and support that they gave to Aunt Vina over the years. Many thanks to other family members and friends who helped and looked out for Aunt Vina. Thank you also to the Bowling Green Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Thank you God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ, for wonderfully blessing Aunt Vina and our family.
