Lillian R. Sizer

September 5, 1928 — July 9, 2016

Lillian R. Sizer

Lillian Richardson Sizer departed this life and entered eternal rest on Saturday July 9, 2016 at her home under the watchful eyes and prayerful hearts of her devoted caregivers; her daughter Paulette Davis and granddaughter Kimberly Davis.

Lillian was born on September 5, 1928 to the late John and Clara Richardson in Milford, Virginia. Lillian was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Jack and John "Mutt" Richardson, and her sister Fannie Richardson Sizer. Lillian was educated in the Caroline County Public School system and graduated from Union High School. She attended Virginia Union University for one year.

Lillian was baptized at an early age and became an active member of St. Stephens Baptist Church in Central Point, Virginia until adulthood. On June 6, 1947 she was joined in holy matrimony to Arthur R. Sizer. To this union three children were born: Baby Boy Sizer (deceased), Paulette Sizer Davis, and Arthur R. Sizer, Jr. Lillian and Arthur were married for 64 years. She was a faithful wife and caregiver to Arthur until his passing in February 2012.

After marrying and moving to Chilesburg, Lillian joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church. Lillian was a dedicated and active member for over 60 years until her health began to fail. She served as Superintendant of the Sunday School for 7 years and she also worked diligently with Vacation Bible School, Christmas programs, and represented the church at the Mattaponi Baptist Association. Her passion and calling however, was missionary work. She was President of the Ebenezer Baptist Church Missionary Ministry for many years. She loved visiting the sick and elderly in their homes as well as those in the nursing home. Spreading love and encouragement to them gave her great joy.

Over the years, Lillian worked at Holly Farms, Hecht's, and Best Products. After retiring from Best, she also drove a special education car for Caroline County Public Schools and volunteered at the homeless shelter in Fredericksburg.

Lillian was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver. She was an excellent cook who believed in down-home hospitality. Her home was often the place for many formal and informal get-togethers for family and friends. Over the years Lillian became the matriarch of both the Sizer and Richardson families. She helped to raise nieces and nephews, took care of her parents as well as her husband's parents, and has shared her wisdom and nurturing spirit with family and friends. Although her health was greatly challenged for the last year and a half, Lillian remained steadfast in her faith in God and maintained her concern for others. Even in her last days, she had cooking and serving others on her mind.

A kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, Lillian leaves a legacy of fond memories to be cherished by her daughter, Paulette Sizer Davis and her husband Pastor Kenneth A. Davis who was a devoted son-in-law; son Arthur R. Sizer, Jr. and his wife Nancy Sizer; two grandchildren Kimberly M. Davis and Arthur Shannon Sizer,; four great-grandchildren, Shadazha Sizer, Faizon Sizer, Kri'Shaun Sizer, and Arthur Shannon Sizer, Jr.; one sister, Clara Stafford; a devoted cousin Elsie Parker, two devoted nieces Clara Harris and Monique White, and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
