Leroy Brown

Leroy Brown was born in Wide Water, Virginia, on July 26, 1927, to the late Laura and Travis Branham. He later changed his name to Brown. Leroy was the eldest of six children.

Leroy attended Stafford County public schools. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Occoquan, VA.

He met his beloved Marie Grimes of Fredericksburg, VA. After a one year courtship, they married on July 1, 1947. In July 2011 they celebrated 64 years of marriage.

As a young man, he drove a truck for Janney Marshall. Later he went to work on the base in Quantico, VA, as a warehouseman. Leroy and Marie moved to Fredericksburg in mid-1980's and joined Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site). After 33 years of government service, Leroy retired from Fort Belvoir.

Leroy was a loving brother, uncle, Godfather, and friend. There was nothing that he would not do for his family. He loved cars and was a fan of racing. Leroy would attend races at Bud's Creek and anywhere there was fast action and sports cars. He owned two sports cars himself.

Leroy was an active member of Old Site Baptist Church until his declining health made it difficult for him to attend regularly. He was a Trustee Emeritus until his death on September 14, 2011. His faith inspired him to attend service each Sunday at the Madonna House until his most recent illness lead to hospitalization in July.

Even though his stroke slowed him down, he never gave up trying to get back on his feet.

He was preceded in his death by two of his brothers, Tommy and Mack and his sister, Leonie Scott. He is survived by his wife, Marie, and leaves with cherished memories, two brothers, Willie (wife Lillie) and Charles (wife Pauline), of Stafford, Virginia, sister-in-law, Stella Brown of Fredericksburg, VA, one God-daughter, Gloria Greenhown, several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. As well as several devoted caregivers: Patricia Brown, Sandy Coleman, Barbara Jackson, Tyia Poole, Helen Walter, Mrs. Marquerite Young, and Mr. Robert Walker; also former caregivers Odessa Jolly and Beverly Thompson, and China Perez.
