"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."
(Psalm 23:1)
On Thursday, April 9, 2015, God extended his almighty hand of love and gently took Lawrence Buckner to a home of joy, peace, and happiness. Lawrence was born on March 7, 1956 to the late Richard and Mary Buckner in King George, VA. He was the fifth of their seven children. He was educated in the public school system of King George County. Lawrence confessed his faith in God at an early age and was baptized and became a member of the Little Zion Baptist Church in Oak Grove, VA. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving eight years and continued for another year in the Reserves. During his twenty year tenure he worked in many Federal facilities as a Security Officer contracted through AM Guard, Alrod Security, Elite Security, Knight, SecTek, Whitestone Group and finally Masters Security. Lawrence simultaneously fulfilled his passion for drag racing as he also worked at the Colonial Beach Race Way for twenty eight years.
"Buck," as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, will be remembered for his compassionate disposition. He was known for his love of Fords as he spent countless hours washing and wiping down his cars, especially his red 2007 Mustang GT. Buck enjoyed traveling and helping others. He also had a great love for his family.
Lawrence was united in holy matrimony to Linda B. Davis on December 11, 1978. From this union, one child was born.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary, and one sister, Glorine Buckner. He leaves to cherish fond memories; his devoted wife Linda of 36 years; one son, Lawrence A. Buckner; and one daughter-in-law, Melanie Buckner all of King George, VA; one fostered daughter Lakisha Honore (Patrick) of Stafford, VA; five grandchildren; Adarylis Ladner, Shakira Buckner, Josiah Buckner, and Ramsey White all of King George, VA, and Asia McCants of Stafford, VA; one God-daughter Natia Jackson (Joseph) of Colonial Beach, VA; two brothers John Buckner, Sr. and Richard Buckner all of King George, VA; three sisters Nancy Johnson of MD, Christine Foster, and Karen Buckner both of King George, VA; four sister-in-laws; Ophelia Triplett of Colonial Beach, VA, Arlene Davis of King George, VA, Marie Brooks (Chris), and Mary McDowney-Milner (Jean) all of MD; two brother-in-laws; Calvin McDowney (Renee) of MD and Wayne Johnson of FL; two aunts; Helen Buckner of King George, VA and Alberta Byrd of Colonial Beach, VA; two uncles; Ralph Young (Daisy) of CA, and Arthur Richards of PA; one great uncle; Zack Thomas of King George, VA; 19 nieces, 16 nephews, and host of other special family and friends too numerous to name.
