Julian Valvet Woolfolk, son of the late Douglas and Virginia Sutton Woolfolk, was born in Caroline County, Virginia on April 11, 1902. He departed this life on May 27, 2002, at the Hospice of Central Virginia.
He attended Caroline County Public Schools. On December 26, 1929, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Zeddie Gatewood. They enjoyed a loving and happy life of 62 years together, always giving of themselves for their family and friends. This union was blessed with five daughters: Yvonne, Miller (deceased), Blandell, Robbie, and Brenda.
He was a life-long member of Reedy Baptist Church, serving as Trustee, Treasurer, and Deacon. He served faithfully until he was 99 years old and his health began to fail.
He worked on the RF&P railroad in his early years, then he decided to come home and farm. When he stopped being a full-time farmer, he worked at Lewis Moore’s sawmill until he was in his eighties.
He was a hardworking and courageous man; he said what he meant and meant what he said. He provided for his family, and when hard times fell upon his neighbors, he provided for them too. He was a regular visitor of the sick and shut-in and was known throughout the county for his kindness.
He leaves to cherish his memory, four daughters, Yvonne Britton of Glen Allen, Virginia, Blandell Blythe of Jamaica, New York, Robbie Woolfolk, and Brenda Woolfolk both of Ruther Glen, Viriginia; a foster son, Samuel Johnson of Clarksville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Kirkland Barnes of Alpharetta, Georgia, Frankie Hughes of Alexandria, Virginia, Robbie Carey and Kim Blythe both of Richmond, Virginia, and Krystal Blythe of Jamaica, New York; two granddaughters-in-law, Deborah Barnes and Denise Blythe; five great-grand children; two sons-in-law, Cleveland Britton and Franklin Hughes; one sister, Ella Ratcliffe; two sisters-in-law, Mary Woolfolk and Sallie Woolfolk; devoted caregivers and friends, Linda Canover, Delroy and Erskine Johnson, Andrew Anderson, Charles Coleman, Irving Childs, Lewis Moore, and Warrenton Burruss.
