Joseph Samuel Pryor, Sr. entered into eternal rest on September 29, 2004 at his home after a long illness. He was born on January 10, 1928 in Owens, Va. to the late Charles Henry and Queen Esther Dunlop Pryor.
At an early age, Joseph accepted Christ and joined the Little Ark Baptist Church, Owens, Va.
He was joined in holy matrimony to the former Gladys E. Whiting on December 18, 1949; to this union were nine children.
Joseph was a World War II U. S. Army veteran. He received a World War II Victory Medal, Occupation Medal Japan, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific and Phillippines Liberation ribbons. He was employed at the Naval Weapons Laboratory and retired due to disabilty in 1977. He also worked as a custodian at King George High School and Potomac Elementary School.
Joseph ''Joe'' transferred his church membership to the Salem Baptist Church, Jersey, Virginia with his wife so they could worship God together. He served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board and Trustee Board as well as custodian until his health failed. In early 2004, he became a Deacon-Elect. His pastor, Rev. Leonard G. Bland, held a special place in his heart.
Joe was a strong and hardworking man who loved the Lord, his family and his church. His greatest joy was being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He had a quiet and sincere spirit. His faith and trust in his Savior was very evident and he was always eager to tell you about Jesus and His goodness.
