Jonathan Christian Chapman departed this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 6, 2007. He was born on April 14, 1991 in Fredericksburg, Virginia and accepted Christ at the age of nine! Jonathan was a member of Ft. Foote Baptist Church and sang in the Angelic Voices Choir.
Jonathan was known affectionately as ''Jon-Jon'' by most family and friends and ''Zarree'' by his mother. He was a junior at LaPlata High School. As an honor student, Jonathan was a passionate basketball player. However, he always put his academics first and never lost sight that he was a student-athlete.
Jonathan leaves to mourn his mother, Lisa Chapman; father, Leonard Hardy III; a ''special'' brother, Christopher; devoted grandparents, John and Blanche Chapman; great-grandmothers, Sadie Bland and Margaret Chapman; two aunts, Angela Jenkins and Tammie Davis (godmother); three first cousins, Bryan and Joey Davis and Rachel Jenkins; two uncles, Rick Jenkins and Craig Davis (godfather). Jonathan was also extremely close to his great-aunt, Lena Bumbry and great uncles, Veola Bumbry and John Bland. He had a special relationship with William Goldring, whom he viewed as a father-figure. Jonathan also held a very special place in his heart for his dog, Snoopy! In addition, to those listed above, there are many more loving family members and special friends, too numerous to list.
Jonathan has been inducted into the National Honor Society for High School Scholars and the National Honor Roll Society. He was also a member of Boy Scout Troop #1551. Jonathan's ultimate dream was to play in the NBA. However, because of his love for math, Jonathan planned to attend college and pursue an engineering degree.
Jonathan was a multi-talented young man. He taught himself to play the piano and drums. Those who knew Jonathan considered him a strong leader who was always willing to help anyone. He was a loyal friend to everyone.
Jon-Jon loved his family and his friends. He adored his mother and brother. Jon-Jon treasured his close relationship with his ''PaPa'' and enjoyed being spoiled by his ''Nana.'' Jon-Jon's smile that lit up the world will be greatly missed. His honesty, sincerity and devotion to his family and friends will never be forgotten by all those he touched.
