John Thomas Ferguson departed this life on September 26, 2015. John was born on October 14, 1934 to the union of the late James and Margaret Ferguson in Vivian West Virginia. He received his education in West Virginia and New Jersey, he obtained a degree in business administration as an accounting major. He also studied criminal justice-fire science while a member of Jersey City fire department. John was a veteran serving in the Honor Guard stationed in Fort Leslie J McNair, Washington, D.C.
He moved to Jersey City New Jersey upon completion of high school in 1952. It was there that he met and married Josephine Johnson Ferguson. He worked as a public accountant, Jersey City firefighter, and tow truck operator. On September 8, 1988 he moved to Spotsylvania Virginia and commuted to New Jersey where he worked until retiring May 1, 1990 from all three jobs. He worked as tax preparer and office manager at Jackson Hewitt tax service here in Spotsylvania Virginia.
John was converted at an early age, and was baptized by Rev. William Turner in Lovely Zion Baptist Church in Vivian West Virginia. When the family moved to New Jersey, he connected with St. John's Baptist Church, and was there for 38 years. After he retired in May 1990, he connected with Mt. Hope Baptist Church under leadership of Pastor Raymond A. Bell Jr.
John was active in both churches and held many positions; among them usher, trustee, church secretary, treasurer, Sunday school/Bible study and vacation bible school teacher, and financial secretary as well as being on building committee of both churches.
He was preceded in death by both parents, his wife, one son (Frederick Leroy Royster) and one great-grandchild (Janae Dominque Braxton). He leaves to mourn his passing; 1 sister, Saundra Hurst (Frank), of Greenville, SC, Elizabeth Royster of Bronx, NY the wife of his late son, 2 daughters Darlene Davis (Daniel) of Long Island, NY, Lisa Ferguson of Spotsylvania, VA, 4 sons JT Ferguson (Monica) of Indianapolis, IN, Leonard Ferguson of Partlow, VA, Charles Ferguson (Mae) of Locust Grove, VA, Terrence Robinson of Katy, TX, 14 grandchildren, 13great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
