John T Brown

On December 5, 1936, Willie and Matilda Brown were blessed with a smiling baby boy that they named John Thomas Brown. And on January 4, 2016 God's garden was blessed with that same smiling baby boy.
Over a half century and plus a decade ago, that contagious smile captured the heart of his soul mate, Helen Roy. Together they reared four kind and loving children.
John provided for his loving family as a rodman for Local Union 201. For over thirty years, he worked diligently laying steel. So when you cross bridges, go through tunnels, and shop at Spotsylvania Mall, you can think of the smiling man who laid the steel in those infrastructures.
Although he worked hard, he did make time for himself. He had a joy for riding 2 wheels and eventually with age turned to 3. His passion was riding his motorcycle with his wife, children and friends. He put his heart into being a member of the Crusaders Motorcycle Club that engaged in various charitable missions.
Recently quoted by his older brother, John was a man of the heart and not of the mind. Because he was such a heartfelt man, he whole heartedly and unselfishly helped all who asked. His time was devoted to helping others and being a faithful servant to the Lord. At Ebenezer Baptist Church, he served as a Trustee, Treasurer, and a member of the Men's Ministry. One would call him the "Go to Person" when any task needed to be performed. For example, John, the light in the vestibule is out; John, the van needs to be inspected; John, the plumbing needs repair; John, the sidewalks are icy. Consequently, that's why he is known for a man who lived through his heart not by his mind.
John's warm heart and well-known smile will be missed by his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Helen Brown of Port Royal, two daughters Deirdre (Keith) Smith of Woodford, Va., Mabel (Michael) Brown of Spotsylvania, Va., two sons Percy Brown of Philadelphia, Pa., Jonathan (Bridgette) Brown of Port Royal, Va., eight grandchildren and one great grandchild; two god-daughters Rolanda Wallace-Taylor of Supply, Va., and Markecia Myers of Port Royal, Va., one sister Nancy (Arthur) Myers and two brothers Richard Brown and Charles (Virginia) Brown, Sister-in-law Mary Brown, one niece (considered as a sister) Ann (William)Cole all of Port Royal, Va. , and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
